In the Name of the Lord: The Rise of Religious Smuggling Operations

In recent years, there has been a growing trend of religious smuggling operations around the world. These operations involve individuals or groups smuggling religious items, artifacts, and even people across international borders in an effort to spread their faith. While some may view these operations as noble acts of devotion, others see them as illegal and dangerous activities that put the lives of believers at risk.

One such operation that has gained notoriety in recent years is the smuggling of Bibles into countries where they are banned or restricted. In countries like North Korea, China, and Saudi Arabia, possessing a Bible or practicing Christianity can result in severe punishment, including imprisonment or even death. Despite the risks, there are individuals and groups who are willing to take the chance to bring the word of God to those who are in need.

These religious smuggling operations often operate under the guise of humanitarian aid missions or other legitimate activities. For example, some groups will disguise Bibles as medical supplies or other goods in order to avoid detection by authorities. Others will use underground networks and secret routes to transport religious items across borders.

While some may argue that these operations are necessary in order to spread their faith and bring hope to those in need, others believe that they are reckless and put the lives of believers at risk. There have been instances where individuals involved in religious smuggling operations have been caught and faced harsh consequences, including imprisonment and even death.

Despite the risks, religious smuggling operations continue to thrive around the world. In some cases, these operations have been successful in bringing the word of God to those who are in need and providing hope to persecuted believers. However, it is important for individuals and groups involved in these operations to prioritize the safety and well-being of those they are trying to help and to consider the potential consequences of their actions.

In the name of the Lord, religious smuggling operations are on the rise. While some may see them as acts of devotion and faith, others view them as dangerous and illegal activities. It is crucial for those involved in these operations to carefully consider the risks and consequences and to ensure that the safety and well-being of believers are always their top priority.

Hank

Not many people go from being raised as an orthodox Jew to becoming an international drug smuggler. Hank Cooper, a Canadian who grew up in Toronto, traveled that path. After becoming an adult (chronologically, at least), in the nineteen seventies and eighties, Hank lived anything but what his parents would have called a normal life during his twenties and early thirties. Maybe it had something to do with his orthodox Jewish upbringing, but then again it probably was a combination of a million other things, especially luck, which he discusses in his memoir, Visit Smuggling with Jesus!.
